Just Enough

I’m an old-fashioned housewife who hangs out the family laundry to sun dry in the breeze. When carrying out sheets or towels I sometimes grab a couple hands full of wooden pins, throwing them in the basket with the wet washing. It is at the clothesline, with the sun peeking over the pine trees, that I’ve “heard” God speak to me a number of times. His message: “I will provide just enough.” It happens when I have the exact number of pins needed for the laundry I’ve hauled outside. To me it isn’t just a coincidence but a loving reminder from my heavenly Father.

Many times God has provided the money we needed for bills or taxes just in time and almost to the cent of what we owed. I’ve been amazed! Yet God’s provision has been much more than money. Whether I’ve required strength for a trying day, or encouragement, God gives me enough. His comfort when sorrows press in is the exact amount my heart needs. Jesus gives me sufficient wisdom for a present decision or knowledge to explain something I previously didn’t understand. Another gift from God is patience, not in abundance but just enough.

Over and over Jesus has worked in my life through circumstances to show me that He is enough to meet all my emotional needs. I don’t have to seek from other relationships what He’s promised to supply. “My grace is sufficient for you,” Jesus promises. “I will do exceeding, abundantly above all you can ask or think of according to My power that works in you.” (2 Corinthians 12:9; Ephesians 3:20)

God doesn’t count out His mercy, forgiveness, or kindness. He is the source of a vast supply. Into the basket of each life He throws in just enough “pins” for the current need, and there is always more where those came from. We can trust our heavenly Father “to supply all our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you always will have sufficient, and even an abundance for every good work.” (2 Corinthians 9:8; Philippians 4:19)
