WALKING WITH JESUS“A man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps.” Proverbs 16:9“In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:6 WALK IN THE SPIRIT“If we live in the Spirit let us also walk in the Spirit.” Galatians 5:25“As many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.” Romans 8:14
Walking in the Spirit gives one hope, security, assurance, freedom, purpose, persecution, and victory. The Spirit of God speaks to those whose ears are tuned to listen saying, “This is the way, walk in it, whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left.” Isaiah 30:21. It is the Holy Spirit who gives direction and guidance for life, and it is the Spirit dwelling within that gives fruit of a beautiful and tasteful character. WALK IN LOVE“Walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.” Ephesians 5:2“By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. Let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.” 1 John 3:16, 18“This is love, that we walk according to His commandments.” 2 John 6“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another as I have loved you. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34, 35 WALK IN THE LIGHT“Walk as children of light, finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.” Ephesians 5:8, 10“God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another.” 1 John 1:5, 7While living on earth Jesus made this declaration. “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” Later He told the people, “Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. He who walks in darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may be the children of light.” John 12:35, 36 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14, 16Light illuminates the pathway dispelling darkness. Light reveals truth and exposes error. WALK IN TRUTH AND FREEDOM “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6“If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31, 32“When the Spirit of truth has come He will guide you into all truth,” Jesus said, “For He will not speak on His own, but whatever He hears He will speak and He will tell you things to come.” John 14:6 “There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” However, “the highway of the upright is to depart from evil.” Proverbs 16:25, 17Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the LORD your God who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way you should go.” Isaiah 48:17
THE JOURNEYWalking with Jesus isn’t always blissful. Not until we reach heaven, beyond the domain of sin, will the road be without potholes. However, we have the companionship and guidance of a Savior who holds us firmly by His hand. He says, “I will bring the blind by a way they did not know; I will lead them in paths they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, and crooked places straight. These things I will do for them and not forsake them.” Isaiah 42:16
Our loving Shepherd assures us, “They shall feed along the roads, and their pastures shall be on all desolate heights. They shall neither hunger nor thirst, neither heat nor sun shall strike them; for He who has mercy on them will lead them, even by the springs of water He will guide them. I will make each of My mountains a road, and My highways shall be elevated. I will comfort my people and have mercy on My afflicted. I will even make a roadway in the wilderness. The path where God leads the way may lie through the desert or the sea, but it is a safe path.” Isaiah 49:9-11, 13; Isaiah 43:19; PP 290

God promises to make a roadway in the wilderness, to provide food to sustain us, to be our Comforter and Helper every step of the way on our journey through life to His kingdom. The trail we travel toward the narrow gate of our heavenly home Jesus says is difficult and steep. “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” Matthew 7:13, 14. Self must be surrendered to God’s will, the decision made to ascend regardless of the cost. “The road may be rough and the ascent steep; there may be pitfalls upon the right hand and upon the left; we may have to endure toil in our journey. When weary, when longing for rest, we may have to toil on; when faint, we may have to fight; when discouraged, we must still hope; but with Christ as our guide we shall not fail of reaching the desired haven at last. Christ Himself has trodden the rough way before us and has smoothed the path for our feet. And all the way up the steep road leading to eternal life are well-springs of joy to refresh the weary.
Those who walk in wisdom’s ways are, even in tribulation, exceeding joyful; for He whom their soul loveth walks invisible beside them. At each upward step they discern more distinctly the touch of His hand; at every step brighter gleamings of glory from the Unseen fall upon their path; and their songs of praise ascend to join the songs of angels before the throne. ‘The path of the righteous is as the light of dawn, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.’ Proverbs 4:18.” Thoughts from the Mount of Blessing 140 “You number my wanderings, put my tears in your bottle, are they not in your book? In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. I will render praises to you, for you have delivered my soul from death, kept my feet from failing that I may walk before God in the light of the living.” Psalm 56:8, 11, 13. “The way to heaven is consecrated by the Saviour’s footprints. The path may be steep and rugged, but Jesus has traveled that way; His feet have pressed down the cruel thorns to make the pathway easier for us. Every burden that we are called to bear He Himself has borne.” Desire of Ages 480 Truly the way is difficult, the climb tiring, but by the strength and provision of our God we will reach the end of this journey and come to Zion with singing. We shall obtain joy and gladness. Sorrow and sighing shall flee away. And until then Jesus promises, I am He who comforts you. (Isaiah 51:11, 12) May your prayer be, “Teach me Thy ways, O LORD, and lead me in a smooth path because of my enemies. Lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 27:11; Psalm 139:24.
