Eternal, Excellent, and Exalted

God, I praise you for your excellent greatness and exceeding kindness.

“How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God!
Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.
How excellent is Your name in all the earth!”
Psalm 36:7; Psalm 8:1

You are the exalted One, King of all, worthy of worship, honor, and praise.

“Let them praise the name of the LORD, for His name alone is exalted.
His glory is above the earth and heaven.
He has exalted the strength of His people, a people near Him.”
Psalm 148:13, 14

God is eternal.

“LORD, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth,
or ever You had formed the earth and the world,
even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
The eternal God is your refuge and underneath are the everlasting arms.”
Psalm 90:1, 2; Deuteronomy 33:27

LORD, you are enthroned in heaven, holy and sovereign.

“God reigns over the nations; God sits on His holy throne.
You are holy, enthroned in the praises of Israel.”
Psalm 47:8; 22:3

God’s throne and kingdom are established forever.

“Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting.
Your testimonies are very sure.
Holiness adorns Your house, O LORD, forever.”
Psalm 93:2, 5

God is exceptionally wise.

“Oh the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!
For who has known the mind of the LORD?”
Romans 11:33, 34

His love is enormous.

I pray “that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith;
that you, being rooted and grounded in love,
may be able to comprehend with all the saints
what is the width and length and depth and height—
to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge;
that you may be filled with the fullness of God.”
Ephesians 3:17-19

You are my source of encouragement.

“Be of good courage and He shall strengthen your heart,
all you who hope in the LORD.
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you.
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
Psalm 31:24; Isaiah 41:10

God gives enlightenment.

“You will light my lamp; The LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.
The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.”
Psalm 18:28; 19:8

You expose error and exalt truth.

“God will bring every work into judgment,
including every secret thing, whether good or evil.”
Ecclesiastes 12:14

You execute judgment.

“The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment
for all that are oppressed.”
Psalm 103:6

You exhort your children.

“All your children shall be taught by the LORD,
and great shall be the peace of your children.
As many as I love I rebuke and chasten.
Therefore be zealous and repent.”
Isaiah 54:13; Revelation 3:19

Jesus’ voice entreats, “Come to Me. Trust Me.”

“I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger
and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.
The one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.”
John 6: 35, 37

You enrich my life with your presence.

“I have set the LORD always before me;
because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.
Therefore my heart is glad.
You will show me the path of life;
in your presence is fullness of joy;
at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
Psalm 16:8, 9, 11

“Blessed are You, LORD God of Israel, our Father, forever and ever.
Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power, and the glory,
the victory and the majesty.
For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours.
Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and You are exalted as head over all.
Both riches and honor come from You, and You reign over all.
In Your hand is power and might.
In Your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.
Now therefore, our God, we thank You and praise Your glorious name.”
A prayer of David recorded in 1 Chronicles 29:10-13
